Dr Jacqui Karn is Head of Policy and Practice Impact.

She is responsible for developing ESRC’s partnerships and managing our engagement with public policy and practice stakeholders. Jacqui has overall responsibility for building and maintaining our strategic partnerships with research organisations, learned societies, government, parliamentary and third / not-for-profit sector stakeholders to identify alignment of interests and maximise the potential for research evidence to inform policy and practice decision-making.

By background Jacqui is a historian and criminologist, completing her PhD in 2004 and a postdoctoral fellowship at LSE in 2006. Jacqui then acquired considerable cross-sector experience as a researcher and knowledge broker conducting, managing, commissioning, synthesising and advising on policy-relevant research at a national and international level in a variety of roles in UK government and non-for-profit organisations / think tanks (UK and UN-NGO) as a specialist in issues around crime, policing, criminal justice and urban policy.

Since joining ESRC in 2015 as a Senior Manager Jacqui has coordinated the development of ESRC strategy, implementation of ESRC centres policy and engagement with the EU and European multilateral funding networks (including coordination of the £1.5 million EC funded EU-India Platform for the Social Sciences and Humanities- EqUIP).
