Sasha Leigh is ESRC's Strategic Lead for the Work, Education and Skills research portfolio. Her role oversees the development and commissioning of a wide range of initiatives across the areas of work, enterprise and productivity, management and business studies, education and skills. Many of these involve working in partnership with government departments and agencies, business and industry, and other national and international funders. Sasha's team is responsible for taking forward key priority research themes in Productivity, Future of Work and Educational Outcomes and also manages a number of investments under the Global Challenges Research Fund and the Strategic Priorities Fund.

Sasha has been working in research funding for most of her career, having worked in a number of roles within the research councils including Head of Policy Partnerships at the Natural Environment Research Council and most recently Strategic Lead for Economic Performance and Environment at the ESRC. Sasha also spent time working in research development and funding strategy at the London School of Economics. Originally studying geology at the University of Edinburgh, Sasha also holds postgraduate degrees in the quaternary sciences (RHUL), palaeoceanography (St Andrews) and latterly in policy research from the University of Bristol.
