Professor Martyn Pickersgill

Professor Martyn Pickersgill FAcSS is Personal Chair of the Sociology of Science and Medicine at The University of Edinburgh.

His research, teaching and engagement is concerned with the social dimensions of biomedicine (in particular, the sociologies of psychiatric, neuroscientific, and epigenetic knowledge).

Martyn is Associate Director of the Wellcome Trust-supported Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society. He is also Co-Director of Research in Edinburgh Medical School’s Usher Institute, and Co-Director of the Wellcome Trust PhD Programme in 'One Health Animal Models of Disease: Science, Ethics and Society' (which brings together students from across the social and biomedical sciences).
