The research councils collectively have an interest in mental health research from a medical, biological, environmental, cultural, societal, technical and historical perspective. We have been working together to develop a cross-disciplinary research agenda, which will help to inform future mental health related cross-council research investments.
In order to help us to develop this cross-disciplinary research agenda an expert group was convened in 2016. The group is comprised of leading academics in the field of mental health. A wider audience of academics, funders, representatives from mental health charities, representatives of end users of research and service user organisations, were consulted through a workshop. The main aim of these activities was to seek advice and gather knowledge about important research areas that could be addressed through cross-disciplinary working within or across the remits of the research councils.
