The Department for International Development (DFID) and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) are launching a DEGRP Follow-on Fund call. This call is only open to applicants who hold (or have held) grants issued by any of the calls within the ESRC-DFID Growth or ESRC-DFID China-Africa Programmes. For ease of reference, these calls are now referred to jointly as the DEGRP Programme.

This Follow-on Fund call is invitation only and intended to support supplementary research activities to existing projects funded under DEGRP, allowing grant holders to build on findings and activities achieved so far. The call has been designed to support the development of new research activities that explore areas of investigation, linked to the original research programme, which may have become apparent or opened up as a result of activities conducted as part of the original grant; or to allow DEGRP grant holders to work with others within the DEGRP Programme to take forward new research activities which take advantage of potential synergies between related projects.

This call is not intended to support new research unrelated to the research completed or ongoing under the DEGRP programme. The call is only open to principal investigators of grants funded through the DEGRP research programme. All uninvited or ineligible applications will be rejected.

Key dates

The call opens on 3 January 2019 and close at 16:00 (UK time) on 20 March 2019. It is expected that applications for follow-on funding will be within the range of £50,000-£100,000, the maximum funding that can be awarded per grant is £100,000 (at 100% full economic cost). We envisage the earliest start date to be 1 July 2019 and grants can be up to 18 months duration, however, all grants must finish by the end date of the programme which is 31 March 2021. No extensions will be allowed for any reason beyond this date.
