The 2017 Festival call is now open for applications to receive up to £1,000 in funding to organise a public engagement event and be part of the Festival of Social Science 2017, which will run from 4-11 November.

This is a special year for the Festival as we will be celebrating its fifteenth anniversary and are hoping to reach more people and parts of the UK than ever.

In 2017 the Festival team is particularly keen to receive applications for events:

  • to be held in London or the East of England
  • run by or featuring early career researchers
  • from first-time organisers
  • that are aimed at specialist interest audiences
  • that encourage participation from children or young people.

Since the Festival started back in 2002, over 1,700 events have been held reaching more than 168,000 people and bringing social science to life.

Don't forget, you can still apply to participate in the Festival, even if you don't need funding from us. You will have all the same sponsorship benefits in terms of support from our staff and promotion through a variety of channels, including press, website and social media (our #esrcfestival hashtag received over 10,000 mentions, with a potential reach of 4.6 million last year). Not only do you have all this, but previous event organisers have told us that being part of the Festival made it easier for them to obtain funds or in-kind services from other sources.

Festival applications will close at 16.00 on:

  • 5 May 2017 for funded applications
  • 12 May 2017 for non-funded applications.

We look forward to receiving this year's applications. If you have any questions in the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact
