What does privacy mean to you? Why should you care about privacy? Why should you want to protect your privacy?
This workshop for 13-14 year old students will explore what the concept of privacy means to young people, especially in the context of the increasingly enveloping digital world and "The Internet of Things".
We will look, firstly, at what privacy means to young people in the context of their lives at school, and within the confines of their families and wider friendship groups. We will then look at the role that privacy plays in a democracy, and the rights of citizens to manage their own personal information and make independent decisions.
Through discussing real-life scenarios in teams, we will explore specific privacy issues and how they can be resolved. The workshop will be facilitated by Aine Maxwell, a solicitor and senior lecturer at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, Queens University.
