Dr Gina Netto

Dr Gina Netto is a Reader/Associate Professor in International and Forced Migration at The Urban Institute in Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh.

She has written extensively on issues relating to migrant and minority ethnic integration, including the role of digital technology, the social processes of language acquisition; progression from low-paid work and experiences of housing, (mental) health and social care services.

She has led and contributed to several research projects funded by the European Commission, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Scottish Government, the NHS and charitable organisations.

Alongside her academic work, Gina has informed the strategic work undertaken by several public organisations, including as a Commissioner for the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland and as independent consultant for the Brussels-based International Centre for Migration Policy Development.

She is currently a member of the Scottish Government’s Expert Advisory Group on COVID-19 and Ethnicity and its Strategic Labour Market Group. Gina obtained her PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh.
