We are pleased to announce a call for expressions of interest by leadership teams for a network plus as part of the Transforming Construction challenge under the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF).
We will fund a single network plus for up to £2.5 million at 100% full economic cost, with a maximum UK Research and Innovation contribution of £2 million. We intend the network plus to create a new community linking together other investments made under the ISCF Transforming Construction Challenge with the broader research base, relevant businesses and wider stakeholders. It will engage the network membership through events, communications and small scale funding calls.
To submit an expression of interest, leadership teams consisting of one principal investigator and between one and three co-investigators should complete the online expression of interest form. Full details of the questions asked in the form are available in the call document.
We will select one leadership team and invite them to submit a full proposal in October 2018.
The network plus will run for 24 months from 19 November 2018.
The Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) was created to ensure that research and innovation takes centre stage in the government's industrial strategy. It brings together UK businesses with the country's world leading research capacity to address key industrial challenges identified as areas where new research and innovation can help UK business acquire or retain a world-leading position and hence underpin the UK's economic future. The fund is administered by Innovate UK and the research councils, which since April 2018 are constituent parts of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
Transforming Construction Challenge
The Transforming Construction challenge aims to eliminate the productivity gap in construction and pave a faster route to building safer, healthier and more affordable places to live and learn that use dramatically less energy. To achieve this the programme will invest £170 million over four years to transform the construction sector to a digitally-driven, design for manufacture and assembly approach to buildings that enables higher quality, faster delivery and more ready integration of active components and technologies.
This ISCF challenge brings together the construction, manufacturing, energy and digital sectors to tackle the three main elements of the lifecycle costs of buildings:
- designing and managing buildings (through digitally-enabled performance management),
- constructing quality buildings (through an offsite manufacturing approach) and
- powering buildings (through embedded active technologies and improved quality of build).
The closing date for expressions of interest is 16:00 on 31 July 2018.
